She does very well at home, and is becoming much more comfortable in new surroundings. Dixie is already home acclimated and has excellent house manners. She gets along great with small and large dogs and has been living with other greyhounds. She walks well on a leash, enjoys going for car rides, and is happy to just hang out with you. Dixie came to us for adoption because she had broken her right rear hock while racing, which unfortunately is a fairly common racing injury. Dixie had surgery to repair her leg, and is doing wonderfully! Only a couple of days after surgery, she was actually putting weight on her leg (which is very rare) and can now walk normally. Our vet has recommended that Dixie have limited exercise for a couple of months or so. (Leash walking is fine). After that she will be able to run and play just like any greyhound that has had no injury. Dixie will make an excellent companion for a family that is looking for a smaller greyhound. She would do well in a condo or apartment, although we would rather she did not have to negotiate a flight of stairs in her new home. A few stairs in and out of the home is OK. She tends to be a little frightened around loud noises, and is shy around new things, so we recommend a nice quiet home for her. Dixie's $225 adoption fee includes her spay, teeth cleaning, all vaccines, leash and collar, grooming mit, stuffie toy, tooth gel, and toothbrush.
