He has a playful and fun personality and as you might imagine from the photo, he is happy to tag along with you on any car rides. He is sweet and loving and has lived in a home for several months, so he is already home acclimated and has already learned good house manners. He is at a good pet weight of about 70 lbs. and in super condition. Jaken wants to be near you at all times and will follow you every where you go--what we refer to as a "velcro" greyhound. He loves people and will lean against you if you are close enough. He has already learned to appreciate the finer things in life, such as air conditioning, stuffie toys, treats, and a soft bed. He has lived in a home with a child and would do great with older children. He may be a little too playful for very small children. Jaken gets along great with other dogs, and would do best in a home with another dog, especially another greyhound for him to pal around with. He tends to get a little anxious when left all alone, but does fine when he has another dog with him. Jaken came to us for adoption because he broke his right rear leg while racing. This is, unfortunately, a pretty common injury among racing greyhounds. His leg was splinted and it has completely healed. Jaken is now running and playing on it like it was never injured. While he was convalesing from his broken leg, he lived in a home with a small dog and cat and did fine. However, once his splint came off, he began chasing both of them, just for fun. He has never hurt a cat or small dog, but he certainly harrasses them for his own amusement! He therefore needs to live in a home without any kitties or small dogs. (Medium to larger dogs are fine). Jaken is very devoted to his people and if you will give him a loving home and care for him, he will gladly return the favor, and much more. He is truly a dog that will be your new best friend. All in all, Jaken is a great dog. He just needs to be reassured that he is loved and that everything will be OK in his new environment. We are very grateful to Dr. Kevin Fontenot of Sunshine Animal Hospital in Melbourne who cared for Jaken after he was injured. It is through Dr. Fontenot's efforts that Jaken's leg healed so well and he is now running and playing once more. Jaken's $225 adoption fee includes his neuter, teeth cleaning, vaccines, microchip, leash and collar, adoption guide, grooming mit, stuffie toy, and Pet-Z-Life tooth gel.
