She is a smaller greyhound girl, around 60 lbs., and is cute, sweet, friendly, and adorable when she smiles. She is playful and loves her toys. She gets along well with other dogs, and has shown a little interest in cats. Timber is currently in training as a part of the Second Chance at Life Greyhound Prison Program (SCAL), a 9-week one-on-one training program where volunteer inmate handlers at Gadsden Correctional Institution near Tallahassee work with the greyhounds every day. The greyhounds stay with their handlers all the time, which really helps them become socialized and adjusted to being a pet. When she "graduates", Timber will know the following commands: heel, sit, down, stay, come on recall, wait, shake hands, and will be house trained, crate trained, and responsive to voice commands. We really feel that when you adopt a SCAL--trained greyhound, you will be adopting the Best of the Best in retired racers. Being in the SCAL program not only helps the greyhounds in their transition from track life to home life, but also does wonders for the inmates. They learn to work together toward a common goal, experience the healing power of the unconditional love of the dog they care for, learn job skills, and return something positive back to their community--a healty, happy, well socialized, well adjusted, and well trained greyhound. In the worst of situations, the greyhounds can make a huge difference in the inmates' lives. Timber will complete her training, return to Tampa, and ready for her forever home the first week of January. Her $350 adoption fee includes her SCAL training, transportation to and from the prison facility, spay, teeth cleaning, all vaccines, collar, leash, SCAL training DVD, adoption guide, grooming mit, toothbrush, tooth gel, and her own favorite toys. . We only have a limited number of SCAL trained greyhounds, and as you might imagine, they are very much in demand. The deposit will be credited toward the remainder of the adoption fee which is due when your SCAL dog graduates and you complete the adoption.
